SDL Trados Studio - Reviewing
Merging files
Merging files is quite handy for review, when you want to ensure translation coherence.
After adding files during project creation, select them and press the Merge Files button, then give a name to the merged file.
You get a single file, including all the selected files in sequence.
When you generate target translations, you get separated files with the same names as the source files.
In Trados 2014 this is not required. You can virtually merge a set of files simply selecting all of them in the Files view and pressing Enter
If you have enabled Auto-propagation, when you change the translation in a repeated segment, you are sure that the change is applied to all merged files.
The Display Filter can help to verify terminology coherence in all the merged files.
Using the Display Filter for Reviewing
Go to the Tools menu, Toolbars and select Display Filter.
In Trados 2014 you can find this toolbar, with a few additional options, in the Review ribbon, under All Segments
When you review a file which you translated only partly, you’ll want to focus on the segments you actually translated, rather than the 100% or CM segments.
The Display box enables to display these segments using
New translated content if you started with an empty right column
or
Translated
if you started with a pretranslated files including 100% and CM in the right column.
The Fuzzy matches are often a QA nightmare. Select those segments and carefully compare source and target content.
Unconfirmed segments are not added to the translation memory. They may be generated by unconfirmed changes (often after a spelling check). At the end of the review every segment should be confirmed, in order to ensure translation memory consistency.
To view again all the segments, just select All segments or the Reset all filters button on the far tight of the toolbar.
The Containing box in the same toolbar can be used to ensure terminology coherency.
Just enter a term and select the option In Source on the right. All segment containing that term in the source text will be displayed. Verify the coherence of the translation of the term in the target text and change as needed. Remember to confirm changed segments with CONTROL+ENTER.
Sometimes you may want to avoid some specific terms in your translation. To make sure that the term has been removed, enter it in the Containing box and select the option In Target on the right. If no segment is displayed, then everything is OK. Otherwise, change the term in the segments which are displayed and confirm the changes with CONTROL+ENTER.
It is possible as well to use regular expressions in the Containing box. If you want to display just the segments containing numbers, enter [0-9] in the box.
